Misogynist publisher of the Lakeland Times, Gregg Walker, is suing the Minocqua Brewing Company for defamation.

Yes, you read that right—a newspaper, which exists solely because of the First Amendment that protects free speech, is suing to suppress free speech.

Fortunately in Wisconsin and in the United States of America, you need to provide a little bit more evidence than “he called me names” to win a defamation lawsuit.

But unfortunately in Wisconsin, we don’t have Anti-SLAPP laws. SLAPP stands for “Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation,” which is an “all-to-common tool for intimidating and silencing criticism through expensive, baseless legal proceedings.”

Anti-SLAPP laws would protect the Minocqua Brewing Company from rich bullies (like our favorite misogynist publisher) from bleeding us dry in expensive litigation. They would allow us to countersue for the cost of defending ourselves with expensive first amendment lawyers. But Wisconsin doesn’t have them.

Thus we need to raise some money for a legal defense fund. Please help us defend ourselves by buying this Sticker
